Little grains of fun with famous characters — Cheon Ji Ae appeared in Secret Garden!

When watching dramas these days, it isn’t fun if you don’t know characters from earlier dramas. The characters will appear within the dialogues to evoke past memories and excite viewers with little grains of fun, such as (above image, from left) Queen of Housewives’ Cheon Ji Ae, Prosecutor Princess’ Prosecutor Ma Hye Ri, Queen Seon Deok’s Mi Shil.
In SBS Secret Garden’s broadcast on Nov 20, the reason top star Oska (Yoon Sang Hyun) broke up with his first love was revealed.
In the scene, Oska thinks back to days of his innocent youth with his first love, Seul (Kim Sa Rang).
He had been a debut singer who was being mobbed by a large fan following, when Seul appeared. Oska had seldom met up with Seul due to his busy schedule, and treated her shabbily because he is always aware that his agency does not approve of their relationship.
Thus, Seul expressed her betrayed feelings by flashing a sketchbook to Oska, much like a scene from Love Actually. Seul wrote, “In a recording studio? Who are you kidding!! I know you were with Cheon Ji Ae!” Following which, she wanted to break up.
While it was a heartbreaking scene, the name ‘Cheon Ji Ae’ also attracted interest. The name comes from the lead of last year’s drama ‘Queen of Housewives’, where Yoon Sang Hyun also acted in. Yoon Sang Hyun became popular in that drama, acting as a 2nd generation chaebol who had a love line with Cheon Ji Ae (Kim Nam Joo), by being her guardian angel.
In another drama “Queen of Reversals’, the first episode used a famous character to its full effect. When Hwang Tae Hee (Kim Nam Joo) first appeared on-screen as a stern ‘Gold Miss’ (successful and unmarried careerwomen after their 30s), her first dialogue was, “You call me Park Mishil? That’s so irritating. Why, am I Go Hyun Jung or what?” This opening lines marked her comeback in the drama.
On Nov 7’s broadcast, while trying to secretly buy in-store cosmetics for her university junior, the dialogue between Hwang Tae Hee and her superior, Director Gu Yong Shik (Park Shi Hoo) also included Prosecutor Ma Hye Ri (Kim So Yeon). In the scene, Director Gu Yong Shik threatened Hwang Tae Hee by saying, “I know a lot of prosecutors.” His secretary added helpfully, “Should I contact Prosecutor Ma Hye Ri?” This amusing twist would have illicited laughter from viewers who watched SBS’ Prosecutor Princess, where Park Shi Hoo also acted in.
