Life after Secret Garden? ( ..); just lookin’~~~^^o
Script reading has started for MBC’s new Mon-Tue drama ‘짝패 Jjakpae’, marking the start of the production.
Although the length of the script has not been finalised, Chun Jung Myung, Han Ji Hye, Lee Sang Yoon, Seo Hyun Jin and other adult characters were present during the eventful session, which also included witty conversations between supporting actors and Lee Sang Yoon’s sudden singing performance.
At the MBC Ilsan Dream Center’s 6th storey script reading room were: writer Kim Woon Kyung, PD Im Tae Woo and other production staff; lead and supporting actors like Chun Jung Myung, Han Ji Hye, Lee Sang Yoon, Seo Hyun Jin, Lee Moon Shik, Choi Jong Hwan, Yoon Yoo Seon and Jung Kyung Ho.
Lee Sang Yoon, who reached the script reading room 1 hour late, was told jokingly by Im Tae Woo PD that “you have to sing since you are late”, with which Lee Sang Yoon stood up to sing the national anthem, thus becoming the ‘ambience-maker’ in the team.
After Lee Sang Yoon’s performance, Yoon Yoo Seon praised, “Our son not only has the looks, there’s nothing he can’t do.” Yoon Yoo Seon takes on the role of Mak Soon, the mother of Gwi Dong who swaps the identities and lives of the drama’s 2 leads.
Chun Jung Myung has been cast as Chun Doong, born as a son of a scholar but raised in a beggar’s mudhut. “Jjakpae” will be his first sageuk (historical drama), acting as a sharp-edged Robin Hood with a soft interior, which can be considered an upgrade after acting as the sentimental male lead of KBS 2TV’s ‘Cinderella’s Sister’.
Han Ji Hye, who left a deep impression with her acting as gisaeng Baek Ji in sageuk action film “구르믈버서난 달처럼’ (“Blades of Blood”), shall take on the role of Dong Nyo, daughter of a seodang (traditional village school) teacher Sung Cho Shi, and becomes the love interest between Chun Doong and Gwi Dong. Seo Hyun Jin has been cast as Dalri, daughter of a leather shoe maker, who accompanies Chun Doong on his escapades.
Sageuk power veterans Lee Moon Shik and Gong Hyung Jin have been cast and shall add much depth into the drama.
Producer Im Tae Woo says, “Good dramas are works which can touch anybody, irregardless of their era and social class.” He also declared, ” To be able to meet the top writers, actors and production members, I can say on behalf of everybody that we will make a good drama out of this sageuk.”
Writer Kim Woon Kyung says, “Being a traditional sageuk for the masses, there will be many comedic points in the drama” which will likely be expressed through his focus on the characters. He added, “(But) the comedic acting and scenarios will not disrupt the flow of the main theme of the drama” He explained to the cast, “For example, look at Baek Yoon Shik in ‘서울의 달 ‘ (‘Moon of Seoul’). The character himself is very serious but everybody else view his expressionless face as a source of laughter.”
The Joseon era “Jjakpae” will air after “Queen of Reversals” finishes its run.
