SBS Miracle Audition prelims

“While looking at the monitor (during your performance) you look beautiful, but the way you act totally without being conscious of your looks, that’s impressive.”
~ Gu Bon Geun PD

JOO MIN HA (Seoul, 25, debut actress)

Before Joo Min Ha’s audition, I had felt it was kind of unfair that actors who had debuted could participate in this audition program. Like Choi Kyu Hwan and this guy (sorry I forgot his name) in last week’s LA audition, they seem to have this extra confidence or familiarity to act on cue. But after seeing Joo Min Ha, I actually want to watch her in a movie! For a while I forgot she’s in an audition, and a variety program at that. And unlike other actor participants, she doesn’t sound as desperate or gets easily teary, she’s quite earnest and upbeat. She might have the potential to be an emcee too. ^^

Now I have 3 power girls to root for in this competition — Joo Min Ha and the 2 amazing schoolgirls Eo Hyun Yeong and Lee Seul! Hope you’ll do well, fighting~!

EO HYUN YEONG (Busan, 19, student)

Actually the acting I loved most from her is her 63 building happiness scene… lol

You can click on this SBS link for her full audition cut~

LEE SEUL (Daejeon, 18, student)

Loved Lee Seul’s tear-inducing audition – she makes you tear with horror, laughter, amazement, and you just can’t help but laugh when she’s crying in happiness~ ^^*

Here’s what the judges have to say~ “Not casting Lee Seul’s dream…” begins Kwak Gyeong Taek PD, “I really can’t find any reason to do so.” Lee Bum Soo turned to him and said in all seriousness, “I don’t agree.. Because I found a reason why I must cast Lee Seul.” LOL

Later Kim Jung Eun asks, “Lee Seul, are you happy now?” She blurted out, “YES!! I’m very happy! You’ll all be blessed!!” *ROFL!*

(note: ‘cast’ is just this show’s way of saying voted to the next round.)

Earlier, I’ve mentioned how audition programs are variety shows which test the viewers’ patience (especially when contestants under-perform in classic scenes –;;). But I really liked the latest episode 3 on July 8. The disappointments were fewer, and (thankfully) shorter~ lol (Thanks to the many talents especially in the Seoul auditions lol)

The actor judges were more reserved this episode, while the PDs became more entertaining in their commenting. I feel there should be an episode where various PDs (such as camera, lighting, audio etc) also become part of the jury. But of course, the veteran actors and actresses are indispensable, and I particularly like Kim Mi Sook. Hope she doesn’t get too busy for the future episodes.. ^^

Here are 2 more contestants from the same episode whom I hope will continue brightening up the TV screens~ (They may be lacking in acting skills, but I think they have what it takes to survive on screen~ ^^;; )

“To give you a flower analogy, you have a (pretty) face whose scent is inadequate”.
~ Gu Bon Geun PD

LEE KI OH (Suwon, 28, driver)

I couldn’t believe it when Gu PD said that — yes, it is a valid observation, but there were so many other contestants (with not-so-adequate performances that shouldn’t have been allowed to air) who should have been more deserving of this comment. Anyway, after giving this sobering ‘Comment Of The Episode’, Gu PD actually gave Lee Ki Oh his vote of confidence. Ha! And yay! I’m glad he could appear on Miracle Audition again. ^^

Besides his good looks and unbelievable background of being a part-time driver (shouldn’t he be modelling??), his Snow Queen teary scene wasn’t too bad, and I liked his sageuk attempt as Prince Yeon San, where I thought he enunciated with a convincing ‘ancient royal’ accent… And the camera PD’s far to near swivel shots enhanced the scene too~~ I probably am more forgiving ‘cos I had no idea who was Prince Yeon San (he’s the ‘worst tyrant in Joseon history’, according to wikipedia ㅡㅡ;;; ) Kwak Kyung Taek PD had interrupted saying, “‘Hold on, Lee Ki Oh sshi.. you look too kind! Bear in mind you’re acting as Prince Yeon San, not King Sejong!”, before advising him to harden up his expressions.

“This guy is really interesting. Somehow.. he has this humorous charm in him. I think he has what it takes to be a good actor, as well as a good entertainer.”
~ Kwak Gwang Taek PD

KIM JOON GU (Choongnam Gongju, 27, student)

Kim Joon Gu is VERY funny! There’s a kind of innocence in his comedic acting, the kind of daydreamer wannabe character you often find in comedies. And his Vectorman action scenes were funny too, in the subject itself (imagine if he wore a Vectorman costume!!) as well as how he got his friends to act as the bad guys, incognito. When the judges asked, “Why are they masked?” He immediately replied, “‘Cos their looks are ^!@$# embarrassing…” LOL Next is the way he lifted his fringe, with so much seriousness it was funny. ^^;;;;  His side profile reminded me of Lee Seung Gi though. ^^* He definitely has a very screen-friendly face. After seeing him not being able to act in the Oska scene, I realised (once again)  how great Yoon Sang Hyun is in his role. *sigh*

All in all, Kim Joon Gu gave one of the most memorable auditions in this series and despite lack of acting skills, he made us viewers very happy! Cast him! *defiant look* ( –)/
