The world of stuntwomen – “I’m the real Gil Ra Im”

Currently a drama about the love story of a stuntwoman is in huge popularity. Reporter Cho Ji Hyun shall bring us to meet the real stuntwoman supporting the female lead of this drama.

[Reporter Cho Ji Hyun] Fighting, dropping from heights, these are the impressive action performances by the female lead of the drama, who is a professional stuntwoman. The real stuntwoman performing these difficult action acting is 22 year old Yoo Mi Jin.

Yoo Mi Jin / Stuntwoman :

For example, the 1st episode of Secret Garden took over 4 days, during which the scenes were filmed 4 times, 30 hours each time. But despite filming for such a long time, in the actual broadcast, I appeared for 1min 30 seconds to 2 minutes at the most.

Yoo Mi Jin started learning taekwondo since she was 5 and majors in physical education in university. At 163 cm, she looks young for her age, but she is confident in her martial arts over everybody else.

When asked “How’s your martial arts skills?”, she replies, “I’m in the 12th rank for taekwondo, hapkido, kendo, kickbocking.

Although Yoo Mi Jin has been a stuntwoman for less than 1 year, she is well-known for her swordfighting and wire action scenes, and is regarded as the best among the top 10 stuntwomen in Korea.

The reporter had the opportunity to experience wire action during one of her practices, and asked, “It isn’t easy at all, how long does it take to learn this?” She replied, “After 6 months of basic training, we need 2 weeks of wire action classes. By going through this, 8 hours per day, you can learn it.”

Besides tackling difficult stunt performances in various movies and dramas, this year Yoo Mi Jin became the first stuntwoman in Korea to attempt car stunts.

Although she doesn’t have a rich and handsome lover like the female lead in the drama, the charisma she exudes as she works in this physically demanding job will be able to touch everybody’s hearts. Her dream, is to become a stuntwoman known worldwide.

Yoo Mi Jin:

I hope to be the best. Out of Korea, I hope I can go to Hollywood and become one of those famous stunt actresses.
