Part 1. ‘Prankster’ Ha Jung Woo.. differentiating himself since childhood

“Hi, I’m Ha Jung Woo…”

“I thought hard about what stories that would be good to share about myself. After some effort, I finally decided to talk about my childhood, as well as my plans for the future. I’m currently involved in the promotion activities for the recently opened “The Berlin File”, while also filming “The Terror Live”. Erm.. With the last portion of filming remaining, I guess by the time this article is published, the filming should have ended already. The movie is expected to open this year, it is a movie with a similar feel as “Phone Booth” and “127 Hours”. Following “The Berlin File”, I hope you will support for this upcoming movie too. And now I shall start on my stories. And of course I extend my gratitude towards your support for “The Berlin File”, and I hope you will continue showing your support.

In reply to that, many of you may say, “You should be satisfied with what you have achieved so far”, but compared to (the successes attained by) people who have poured in so much blood and tears, I wish to be better than what I am now. Haha.”

Now I finally realized what’s missing in the skydiving scenes… (the wind), and how they did this ingenious day-to-night scene (below)

Whereas there were many other scenes which I took for granted …

– especially in sageuks. Saguek CG should be a genre on its own, and I believe the MBC guys have one entire CG library of sageuk objects~ ^^;

2012 K-Drama Star Awards

Part of the Dae Jeon Drama Festival (http://djdf.org/wordpress/), award recipients are chosen irrespective of station nor ratings, featuring works from Oct 1 2011 till Oct 31 2012. This generous timeframe enables the nominations of actors and actresses from Tree with Deep Roots to Nice Guy, where some, like Han Ji Min, appeared in multiple dramas. Han Ji Min is nominated from her efforts in both Rooftop Prince (MBC) and Padam Padam (JTBC). Answer Me 1997 (tvN) won much as leads Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji received the Best OST, Best Couple and Rising Stars awards. Interestingly, recognition was also given via the Baddie Award (Yoon Yong Hyun), Best Manager Award (Kim Jong Do) and Action Set Award (Gaksital).

[The Romantic] youtube official channels

Many of you asked about English subtitles … one of you asked “What is the Romantic?” My guess is that The Romantic is airing internationally now in certain countries, it’s pretty popular, and I can only hope CJ E&M, parent company of channel tvN (Korean | English) will provide the subtitles on their youtube channels.

The Romantic is a variety show where single Korean guys and girls embark on a short trip to Croatia (Season 1) and Turkey (Season 2) and get to know each other. Besides going on dates, the production team gives them “missions” to fulfill, and they are made to comment and confess their feelings throughout the show, either individually to the camera, or face to face with all other participants. The entire show is shot and produced with beautiful cinematography, PD Lee Myung Han (creator of KBS 1 Night 2 Days) touts it as “a variety more romantic than a movie”.

Golden Time 5회 명대사

Golden Time isn’t the greatest of dramas, it’s not that inspiring per se, and when yet another victim suffers a “creative” mish-mash of multiple injuries so as to illustrate hospital disunity, it just seems too convenient.

I love the OST though, it reminded me of Pasta (Yes, both OSTs are by Every Single Day)

And then I realized lead actors Lee Seon Gyun and Lee Sung Min were from Pasta too, and so did PD Kwon Suk Jang. Scriptwriter Choi Hee Ra hails from OB/GYN (SBS, 2010) and I admit I preferred that drama to Golden Time. At least patients had stories in OB/GYN. Are trauma victims less deserving of a story?

Despite the plot, Lee Seon Gyun and Lee Sung Min are excellent~ The fact that Pasta’s “chep” and Golden Time’s most neurotic intern are by the same actor — I’m amazed at Lee Seon Gyun’s acting range. And of course, every Korean medical drama has a hero – Lee Sung Min takes over the baton from Brain’s Shin Ha Kyun. ^^ Here’s a 명장면 (“memorable scene”) from ep 5~

[The Romantic] Jun Sung + Tae Hee talk about him + her-selves

Let’s meet this very romantic guy and girl from <The Romantic>!

These days, as gust upon gust of spring breeze brushes past us, somehow it seems to echo out to us, “I long to fall in love~”. Perhaps, because of this suggestive weather, that’s why many viewers are attracted to the real love stories of the participants in channel tvN’s <The Romantic – Croatia Edition> and <The Romantic – Turkey Edition> (shown every Saturday at 12 midnight).

Last Saturday (Apr 7 2012), in a spring-soaked atmosphere along the Dodam-gil route of the N Tower and Deoksu-goong palace, our journalists Kim Tae Goon and Ahn Jung Hyun met up with The Romantic participants Kim Tae Hee and Kang Jun Sung respectively. Both of them told us about the behind stories of <The Romantic> and about how their love stories changed due to The Romantic. But more than that… Kim Tae Hee-nim the older woman and the persistent Kang Jun Sung-nim, who looks upon her like a sunflower towards the sun. Will their love-line eventually be realised, or will it not?

Fear of the Equator Men~

Delicious fear that is… Viewers don’t just like righteous heroines and pitiful princes, we need characters that are remorseful — or, wait, no, they are totally remorseless — hmm .. or maybe just plain psychotic..?!

1. Kim Young Chul’s expression of silent rage (glass-crushing in darkness)

2. Lim Shi Wan’s mirror rehearsals, in case of police visits

I thank Moon Embraces The Sun for pushing Lim Shi Wan into the limelight as a pretty boy, but I never knew he could be so convincingly haunted and bipolar in Man From The Equator. How could he commit such atrocities, time and again, with so much guilt in his eyes?

3. Uhm Tae Woong’s painful wake-up to reality

Uhm Tae Woong was scary ever since he lay comatose on the hospital bed, even with the inserts of teen-to-adult transitions via cozy memories of Lee Hyun Woo, Dad, barbequed meat and his Equator Philosophy* (see below). I was half-thinking – “Please don’t wake him by doing a sudden vampire sit-up and asking ‘Who am I'”!! He didn’t, blinking slowly through his recovery, teasing us with possible memory loss (nope, the doctor insists it’s temporary, just chill), before running amok for his loss of sight. And yet…

The First Person He Grabs.. is none other than The Other Psychotic Equator Man.

Is that Jang Il’s eyes, or ours?
